Bringing the Sea to Your Wellness Routine

Who doesn’t feel glowing after a dip in the ocean? That amazing feeling is probably from the salt water and minerals cleansing and invigorating both your body and spirit. Fortunately for those who can’t make it to the beach everyday, seaweed can help recreate a little of that euphoric feeling. Seaweed can be incorporated in both delicious recipes and skincare routines to provide nutrients and minerals right from the sea.

Packed with many nutritional benefits, seaweed contains high levels of fiber, iron and iodine, which can assist in thyroid function. Due to being high in fiber, seaweed is amazing for the gut. In addition, seaweed is loaded with vitamins A, C and E, along with the B-group vitamins. Research studies have also found seaweed to have higher levels of vitamin A than in carrots. For vegetarians and vegans, seaweed is also a great source of B-12

To begin incorporating seaweed into your diet, there is a few things to know. There are different types of seaweed and the most popular you’ve likely seen in stores - Wakame, Nori, Kelp, Kombu and Arame. Asian cultures use a variety of seaweed in many traditional dishes that have been passed down for generations. You can find Qi Alchemy’s delicious Healthy Kimbap recipe, which incorporates seaweed. Also a favorite, a simple bowl of miso soup with seaweed is great comfort food, warming the soul (not to mention - extremely nutritional). However seaweed is not just limited to sushi and miso soup.  A great variety of recipes incorporate seaweed for its taste and health benefits. Including kelp with soba noodles adds nice flavor and wakame salad is also a popular dish, which tastes light and refreshing.

If seaweed is this incredible for your body, it should come as no surprise that it’s just as amazing for your skin. Seaweed’s high nutritional content makes it a great ingredient in skincare. Because seaweed is high in Vitamin C, it helps your body produce collagen and fight skin damage. Seaweed can also work as an exfoliant to remove dead skin cells and thoroughly cleanse the skin, leaving your face feeling soft and beautiful. In addition, seaweed can reduce inflammation from acne and also other skin conditions like rosacea.

Seaweed is a super ingredient in any recipe or skincare regime and it comes straight from the ocean. So to recreate that post-beach glow, consider adding seaweed to your wellness routine!
